The concept for the Tackle Girls! community and forum began in the fall of 2004, when its creator discovered women’s rugby, joined a local team, worked hard, got buff, then promptly broke her ankle in a scrimmage right before the start of the playing season.

Yup, that’s me. I got the rugby bug so badly that I immediately started looking for ways to stay involved in rugby, even though I couldn’t walk (much less ruck!) Propping and broken ankles do NOT go well together.

First, I decided to design myself a ladies rugby t-shirt that I could wear on the sidelines. The next thing I knew, the Tackle Girls! Store had exploded to almost 100 different items, and lady ruggers and fans were sporting my designs from California to the Netherlands.

In the process of finding and greeting the captains, coaches, web masters and social chairs of WRFCs and collegiate clubs around the world, I became frustrated with the lack of interactive communities for women’s rugby on the internet. Honestly, I couldn’t find a single site dedicated in general to club and college level women’s rugby. So… I decided to create one.

My goal for this forum is to bring together women’s rugby players and coaches from around the world, so that we can share ideas and stories, discover new ways to promote our sport, and share information about upcoming events and opportunities.

If you feel that something is missing, please let me know! This site is for all of us, and I’m happy to make any changes that I can.

Until we meet in person, tackle like a girl!

Paula
