By Chip Auscavitch and Elizabeth Petersen-Berube 1. Place four cones approximately 10–15 apart from one another, forming a square. Players should form lines in equal numbers behind each of the cones. 2. Give a ball to the first player in one line. 3. The player with the ball should run to the middle of the square, pop the ball to her left, and run straight to the end of the line directly across from her. The passer should focus on creating clean, accurate passes and should attempt to fade away from the ball. 4. The receiver should call for the pass, burst onto the ball, catch the ball cleanly, and pass to her left. Once she has passed, she should run straight to the end of the line directly across from her. 5. After each player has passed to her left approximately 10 times, players should pass to their right (still running straight to the end of the line directly across from them). Spend a longer amount of time on this drill if you want to focus on technique or if passes/catches are off. Extra credit: To make this drill more fitness-focused, expand the grid and tell players to sprint to the ball. Other elements besides passing can be added to make the drill more dimensional. For instance, you can add tackling or have players work on diving on loose balls. |
