Truck & Trailer
Submitted by Naomi on behalf of Avon RFC Ladies, Bath, England

People needed: At least 10 players, preferably 12 or more

Purpose: To improve speed when changing direction, encourage cutting angled runs, good timing when passing and communicative support

Directions:

1. Place four cones in a square approx. 10x10m. Players should line up in equal numbers where possible on each cone, in the case of 10 players, two groups of 3 and two of 2.

2. The first player in the starting group (one of the larger groups if there is one) should have the ball.

3. The first two players of the starting group should run from their cone to the next corner of the square.

4. The player with the ball passes to the first player in the next group and joins the back of that group.

5. The ball is then passed back to the second player who goes to the next cone. The player that just passed becomes the support player, following to the next cone where step 4 is repeated.

6. Steps 4 and 5 are reapeated going round the square until a)the ball is dropped or b) the drill has filled the time allocated.

If you find that easy, or practice enough that you need extention, you can add in another ball if there are enough players, make the square bigger, or split into two smaller groups to cut down rest time between runs. Bear in mind that all through you need to talk to each other, to let other players know you want the ball, or that you are there in support.

This is a fantastic drill, and looks great to spectators and opposition as a warm up once you get really practiced! Enjoy!

Thanks to Naomi and the Avon RFC Ladies of Bath, England for this great drill!

Do you have variations on this drill you'd like us to add, or a different drill you'd like to share? Please e-mail your suggestions to Elizabeth at elizabeth@tacklegirls.com
