By Kelli Nottingham Spanish moss drapes gracefully from centuries-old oak trees, shading antebellum and Victorian homes, intricate remnants of our history. Through the trees, one hears the sounds of birds singing and dogs barking. But what is that other sound? Peering through the rhododendrons, there it is again: the sound of scrums in the morning mist. Welcome to Savannah! Georgia's oldest city, Savannah is a blend of the old and new, from its architecture to its customs. One of Savannah's most treasured traditions is the St. Patrick's Day celebration which takes place here each year. Tens of thousands of tourists flood the city to partake in its temperate climate, stunning beauty, and fun atmosphere. And right in the middle of this green frivolity is one of the largest rugby tournaments in the south. Hosted by Savannah's rugby club, the Savannah Shamrocks, the St. Patrick's Day Rugby Tournament offers the opportunity to play in a variety of groups ranging from serious competitors to social clubs. The number of social sides is impressive, and allows many opportunities for women's clubs, both collegiate and social, to join in the fun. Picking up games is easy and the social aspects of the tournament can't be beat. Teams from all over the country descend on Savannah to enjoy the laid back atmosphere and social interaction with like-minded ruggers, while taking part in competitions involving all levels of play. This year's tournament takes place on March 18th and 19th. We love to have women's teams participate, so join us! A massive rugby tournament in a beautiful, historic town. A huge celebration in temperate weather. Add in some green beer, and what else could a rugby player want? So come on down and enjoy some of Savannah's Southern Hospitality!
