![]() To Add Women’s Team Three time defending Western U.S. Champion and U.S.A. Rugby Super League newcomers St. Louis Bombers Rugby Football Club is announcing the addition of a women’s side to complement its already strong Super League, Division I, Division II and Old Boys Sides. The St Louis Bombers RFC is looking to expand its 43 year history of fostering rugby’s development at the highest levels in the US, including numerous players of international and territorial caliber. Next year the Bombers will compete in the Rugby Super League, the highest level of competition on American soil. Team President Dan Ward states, “It seemed like a natural time for us to do this. Adding a women’s side in conjunction with our entering the Super League brings a lot of positives to the table. We are looking to expand our club base and grow as an organization.” The women's side will be coached by Gary Lambert. Gary represented the US in the 1987 World Cup, has 20 caps for 15's and 70 in 7's. He has coached a number of high school and college teams and is currently a USA developmental coach and travels to U19 camps across the country. The Bombers are very excited to have Gary on board and know that this team will be a great thing for women's rugby in St. Louis and the Midwest in general. The Bombers look for the women’s team to grow into a nationally competitive side. Vice President John Wolf said, “We want to play a limited schedule this spring and then build from there. We already have women with international and territorial experience on board as players. We look for this team to develop into a nationally respected women’s side.” Players committed include US Eagle Liz Reed, Mari Therrien and Michelle Stephen. The Club is actively recruiting experienced players and interested athletes, as well as those without prior rugby experience. Men and women interested in playing for the club should call the “Bomber Hotline” at 314-852-BOMB or go to www.stlouisbombers.com for more information.
